Sean Haugland graduated from the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort) in 1998 and spent 4 years working in small animal practice in the south of England .

In late 2002 he began a residency in Pathology at the University of Cambridge Vet School. As well as participating in the day to day diagnostics of the Department, he was involved in research into canine mammary tumours and soft tissue sarcomas.

He joined the team at Rest Associates early in 2006.

He attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination in 2008.
